Arctic Blue was literally created at the kitchen table. Founder Ludo van de Wiel noticed that his children did not like eating fish, even though omega 3 fatty acids are essential for their development.

He did not want to compromise on health, taste, or sustainability. So he started searching for an alternative himself: an omega 3 product that was clean, pure, and enjoyable to consume, a product he could confidently give to his own children. What began as a personal search turned out to reveal a clear gap in the market. There was a demand for high quality, sustainable omega 3 without a fishy aftertaste and without placing unnecessary strain on the ocean. Arctic Blue was founded based on this conviction.

🌍 Sustainability
For Arctic Blue Omega, sustainability is not a marketing term but the foundation of the brand.

The fish oil carries the MSC certification and is produced from fillet trimming by products, a conscious choice to reduce waste and treat the sea responsibly. At the same time, the company sees algae as an excellent plant based source of omega 3. That is why they are strongly investing in their algae product line. For them, it is not an either or story, but a both and approach. Both sustainable fish and high quality algae have their place within a responsible omega 3 offering. Arctic Blue also makes conscious choices in its packaging. For example, the capsule packaging can even be disposed of with compost.

🌱 Vegan line
The world is changing. More and more people are choosing a plant based lifestyle for themselves and their pets. That is why it was natural for Arctic Blue to offer a powerful plant based alternative alongside fish oil: algae oil.

Algae are the original source of omega 3 in the food chain. Fish obtain their omega 3 by eating algae, so why not start directly at the source?

Today, algae oil is already available with higher levels of DHA and EPA than some fish oils. Arctic Blue is fully committed to this and now offers nine different types of algae oil. This not only serves the growing vegan audience but also provides an alternative to meet the global demand for omega 3.

Why Algue Oil?

Algae oil is the most animal friendly alternative to fish oil, one of the most widely used nutritional supplements for dogs and cats, with positive effects on inflammation, joints, and coat condition. Algae are tiny plants that naturally produce omega 3 fatty acids (ALA, EPA, and DHA) in water. In nature, algae pass these nutrients on to fish when they are eaten. This gives algae oil the power of fish oil, without the environmental drawbacks.

Arctic Blue produces algae oil capsules from cultivated algae grown in a controlled environment, ensuring they contain no contaminants from the ocean. The capsules are fully plant based, as the gelatin has been replaced with ingredients such as seaweed.

Omega 3 fatty acids are considered essential nutrients, meaning that both dogs and humans must obtain them through their diet. Both ALA and DHA are converted into EPA, and this EPA has already been added to the capsules.

The Future
