The most important thing is of course that your dog gets all the nutrients he needs for a healthy and long life. Nutrients can be obtained from various food sources. It is important that there are a number of essential nutrients in the food, because the dog cannot make them itself. For example, there are essential amino acids that the dog needs from the diet. In addition, of course, proteins, carbohydrates and fats are also needed. An enormous amount of research has been done on dogs and also on the nutrients that a dog needs and in what quantities they should be present in a meal as a minimum, and sometimes a maximum. These are laid down in guidelines of the FEDIAF – a trade association of the animal nutrition industry. When a power supply meets these guidelines, we call it a 'complete nutrition† In other words: This food contains everything your dog needs for a healthy and long life.

That is the most important thing you should pay attention to: Is this diet a complete diet? Manufacturers are only allowed to put this on the packaging if the food is really complete.

There are plenty of choices in complete meals for your dog. You have chunks based on vegan ingredients, chunks containing animal products, wet food in all shapes and sizes, raw meat and you can cook your own meals with a specially intended supplement. Which of these types you choose is of course up to you. At VegaVriend we have an extensive selection of vegan dog food. We have starter packs made with test bags, so that your dog can choose which kibble he/she likes best.

There are also dogs with, for example, a food allergy. Dogs can be allergic to animal proteins or there are dogs with, for example, a grain allergy. If dogs are allergic to (certain) animal proteins, then all foods in our range are suitable. We also have a number of options for dogs with a grain allergy. You can find it here

Can dogs eat vegan?

Physiologically speaking, dogs can absorb all the nutrients they need from plant food sources. A dog has lived alongside humans for more than 10 years and its menu has become increasingly similar to humans. For example, the dog now has enzymes in its digestive system that allow it to break down and digest starch. The wolf does not have these enzymes.
