Why wheat-free wet food for my dog?

To avoid direct misunderstandings: wheat-free is not the same as gluten-free and grain-free. Gluten-free products are products that do not contain several gluten-free grains, such as wheat, rye, barley and oats. Other grains than wheat can still be present in wheat-free products. Dogs with an allergy to wheat often notice this in stomach and/or intestinal complaints and in skin problems and itching. It is therefore very important to switch to wheat-free wet dog food if your dog has an allergy to it.

Benefits of wheat-free dog food

There are many benefits to wheat-free wet dog food. So it is not only necessary for dogs with allergies, but also for other dogs it can have a positive effect. Some benefits that can apply to your dog are:

  • less itching
  • Healthier skin and a beautiful shiny coat
  • Fewer allergies
  • More energy
  • Better stools

Be careful when switching to wheat-free food. Start adding some wheat-free wet food to the daily diet little by little. This way your dog can get used to the wheat-free diet, without it being bothered by it.

Difference grain-free and wheat-free

With grain-free and wheat-free you should not think that these are the same terms. There is a clear difference between these two allergies. Grain-free dogs are not allowed to eat grains. Think of grains such as wheat, oats and rye. In addition, grain-free wet food is also gluten-free. With wheat-free dogs are only allowed no wheat. So it is no problem to eat other grains.
